This is my first ever blog post. Joanne our very fine web designer has been kind enough to send instructions even I can understand.

The purpose of this blog: I thought people might like to talk about art and or art supplies in the Hudson Valley and the world. There are a lot of supplies out there and while no store can carry everything, I will listen to any requests and take them seriously. I am also a working painter so I am interested in supplies for their own sake. Whenever I travel I always check out the art supply stores first. I am most impressed with those local, independent stores which have succeeded by catering to the needs of their community. The chain stores with their generic "top 1000 skus" approach do not interest me. The best stores have just the right combination of cheap basic commodities; unique, pleasurable oddities and a significant selection of the really good stuff. A great art store should be should be organised so anything can be easily found, but not too tight. I find a little jumble comforting.

As far as Art goes I came up in the eighties in New York. I haven't paid rapt attention to the art world since probably the mid nineties.
